Hon. Muntaka Mubarak distributes 140 streetlights to Assembly Members to improve visibility in Asawase
The Member of Parliament for Asawase constituency, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak has donated 140 light-emitting diodes (LEDs) street lights at a cost of 70,000 Ghc, to all Assembly members within the Asokore Mampong Municipality as part of measures to improve visibility and security in their various electoral areas.
Out of the 140 street lights distributed each of the fourteen (14) elected members of AMMA received ten (10) pieces.
The donation exercise held on Tuesday 12th July had all Assembly members present to take their share of the equipment.
The donation was done on behalf of the the Asawase Constituency Executives of the NDC, led by The Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Mutum, who acknowledged that the issue of streetlights in the Asokore Mampong township had been of great concern to the MP, hence the distribution to aid and improve visibility at night in the communities, and prevent road crashes as well as reduce crime, among others.
“Visibility is very crucial to prevent crimes as well as other social vices and for that matter, these streetlights will help in brightening the communities and enhance public safety especially during this nights,” he said.
“This will improve upon the fight against insecurity situation in this community and boost economic activities in the evenings.”
He added that the reason behind the donation exercise from the MP was to equip the Assembly Members to perform their basic function of facilitating the needs and aspirations of their constituents.
He said the street lights were being distributed devoid of party lines and therefore asked all Assembly members to come together in fixing the lights at the right spot for the right purposes.
The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly is one of the thirty (30) Administrative districts in the Ashanti Region. It was carved out of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly due to the growing population of the Kumasi Metropolis.
