2020 Manifesto: NPP government to build 16 model senior high schools in Zongos in 16 regions

Vce President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced that the government of President Akuffo-Addo, will in its next term of office build sixteen model senior high schools in selected Zongos in each of the sixteen regions across the country.

Giving highlights of the Manifesto under different sectors, the Vice President announced the plan to build these model SHS as part of the Manifesto’s education agenda in the next term of President Akuffo-Addo.

Vice President Bawumia first revealed the plans to build 16 midel senior high schools when he visited the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu to officially inform him of his re-nomination as running mate to President Akufo-Addo for the 2020 elections.

During the visit, Dr. Bawumia said the decision is part of the Akufo-Addo government’s continuous effort at sustainable development in Zongo and other deprived communities, using education as catalyst.

“President Akufo-Addo is more committed to uplifting education in Zongo communities. As a result, he has decided that in shaa Allah, his next government will build 16 model secondary schools in Zongo communities in each of the sixteen region,” Dr. Bawumia said.

“This will be a special  senior high school, which will focus on educating children within Zongo communities.”

The Vice President added that the construction of the model senior high schools in the Zongos will compliment other educational interventions the government has made which has benefited children and parents in the Zongos sich as Free SHS and TVET, as well as the award of scholarships to 40 students from Zongos to study medicine in Cuba.

“On education, apart from the flagship Free SHS which several children from Zongos are benefitting, the Zongo Development Fund and the Ministry of Zongo and Inner City development have prioritized education in the Zongos by building and renovating classroom room blocks and ICT centres in many Zongos across the country, as well as giving scholarships to 40 brilliant but needy students drawn from Zongos to study medicine in Cuba.”

Dr. Bawumia underlined the Akufo-Addo government’s firm commitment to the promotion of education in the Zongos, using the restoration of allowance to Arab teachers, which was cancelled by the Mahama government, as further proof of President Akufo-Addo’s sincerity.

“President Akufo-Addo’s sincerity towards the education of the Zongo child is further underlined by his government’s decision to restore the paying of allowances to instructors (Mallams) who teach children in Zongos Arabic and Islamic studies.”

“Prior to the government of Nana Akufo-Addo assuming office in 2017, the NDC had cancelled the Arabic Teachers module under the National Service. It is the Akufo-Addo government that has employed 3,000 Arabic Teachers from Zongo Communities.”
