Jordan Ayew provided two assists on his 68th appearance for the Black Stars in a match Mohamned Salisu and Mohamned Kudus scored to secure a 3-2 win for Ghana over South Korea on Monday.
After facing huge backlash in Ghana’s 3-1 loss to Portugal, the Crystal Palace star responded positively by shushing his critics with his two remarkable goal-making free-kicks for Ghana.
A goal from Mohammed Salisu Mohammed and a brace from Mohammed Kudus ensured Ghana’s victory over South Korea in their second Group H encounter.
Ghana’s number nine was deployed on the left flanks, and his two free kicks did the magic for Salisu and Kudus to put the Black Stars ahead in the first half of the game.
After the Koreans dominated play in the early part of the game, it was Ghana’s turn to prove their mettle, and it was Jordan who took center stage, playing a pivotal role in firing his team to victory.
Ghana coach Otto Addo started the crucial game by making three changes to the squad that played against Portugal last week, with Gideon Mensah, Tariq Lamptey, and Jordan Ayew replacing Alidu Seidu, Abdul Baba Rahman, and Alexander Djiku.
And it was Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu who opened the goal doors for Ghana in the 24th minute after perfectly connecting to Jordan’s free-kick amid a melee.
Ten minutes after the opener, Jordan again set Kudus Mohammed up to head home Ghana’s second from a well-calculated cross from the left side of the attack.
But sweet turned sour as the Koreans came back strong to equalize both goals in a spate of three minutes.
After tormenting the Ghanaian defenders, Gue-Sung Cho netted the consolation for the Koreans in the 57th minute.
Three minutes later, the 24-year-old, who plays for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in South Korea, headed home the equalizer.
With their revival, South Korea kept piling the pressure on the Black Stars, but against the run of play, Kudus Mohammed restored Ghana’s lead in the 68th minute.
Jordan Ayew was however substituted for Kamaldeen Sulemana as Coach Addo made some changes to protect Ghana’s lead.
The victory means Ghana now has three points after two matches and will need either a win or draw against Uruguay on December 2 to secure a place in the knockout stage of the competition.
