African Games Zongo Football: New Town reach final after eliminating Mamobi

New Town staged a strong fighting spirit to crawl from behind to beat Mamobi 5-4 in penalty shootouts after the match finished 1-1 in regular time in the first semi-final game of the ongoing African Games Zongo Football Competition
The epic encounter at at the Madina AstroTurf saw Mamobi taking the lead through Desmond Abuga before Bernard Cofie levelled from the spotkick for New Town.
Abuga trapped a loose ball following a defensive mishap inside the New Town box. The intelligent forward darted a great volley that cannoned off the crossbar before sailing into the net.

New Town should have pulled themselves level minutes later but Bernard Cofie and Hakim both skied the opportunities their chances.
Five minutes after the interval New Town pulled an incident inside the Mamobi that led to a VAR review. Referee Rita Nkansah signalled for a penalty and Bernard Cofie converted the spot-kick to peck the tally.

The game went straight to penalties after the regulation time of 60 minutes ended 1-1.
Maurice Fuseini missed Mamobi’s second kick while New Town converted all their 5 kicks.
New Town will now have to wait for the winner of the Second Semi Final between Nima and Fadama at the Grand Finale.
