Ghana Police Mosque starts live streaming of Taraweeh

The Ghana Police Central Mosque at Cantonment started the streaming of its Taraweeh prayers live on its Facebook page (Ghana Police Mosque).

The Taraweeh prayer is a special, lengthy prayer said in the evenings during the month of Ramadan, and this special prayer attracts large number of worshipers in various mosques.

With the Police Mosque being a highly patronised mosque, it has always attracted large number of worshipers from across the city to the Taraweeh prayers.

Explaining the rational behind the innovative streaming of the prayers live, the Imam of the Ghana Police Service SUPOL Imam Husein Abdur Rahim Husein said, the streaming is to extend the prayers beyond the boundaries of the mosque to the world.

“Social media is a new phenomenon and during this month of Ramadan where Muslims are expected to get closer to the Almighty, we are of the firm belief that streaming our Taraweeh prayers live on Facebook will grab the attention of many Muslims who are online and they will follow and watch the prayers instead of following something else,” explained Imam Husein.

The management of the mosque has introduced a short break at the halfway stage of the Taraweeh prayer for a short for a short lecture on Ramadan-related topics, and Imam Husein further adds many people would benefit from the live stream.

“One other benefit is that a number of people will also benefit from listening to our daily sermons on important topics related to Ramadan. We speak to close to one thousand people inside the mosque, but with the live streaming, we are talking about reaching out to many homes and individuals across the nation and the world.”

Worshipers at the mosque are benefitting from an array of Imams and scholers who have been leading prayers and also offering insightful lecture on different Islamic topics on a daily basis.

So far, three Imams lead the Isha and Taraweeh prayers, which starts at 8:00 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. Each Imam is allotted specific number of rakats everyday.
