KHUTBA: stick to the fundamentals of Islam and you’ll be delighted in your faith – Imam Husein

The Imam of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Imam Husein Abdur-Rahim Husein has urged Muslims to stick strictly to the fundamentals of Islam if they are to get closer to Allah Almighty and also enjoy the delight of faith.

Delivering his Jummah Khutba (Friday sermon) at the Cantonment Police Mosque under the topic “the sweetness (delight) of faith”, Imam Husein explained that adhering strictly to the fundamentals of Islam is to “prefer Allah and His Messenger alone in everything.”

“When you prefer Allah and His Messenger to any other thing, you only practice what Allah has ordained, and what the Prophet taught. When you prefer Allah to any other thing, you wholeheartedly attribute anything which befalls you; good or bad to the will of Allah,” added Imam Husein.

Imam Hussein further explained that to prefer only Allah and His Messenger, is also to strictly adhere to the other principles of Islam namely; salat, fasting in the month of Ramadan, paying of Zakat and performing Hajj.

“These, together with relying solely on Allah and practicing what the Prophet taught are enough to make one’s Imaan (faith) complete and get him closer to Allah,” he said.

“There is no magic in getting close to Allah and enjoying the sweetness of your faith. Submit to the will of Allah and stay within the confines of what you are obligated to do as a Moslem.”

The Imam assured that getting close to Allah comes with immense benefits because Allah himself has said that He loves those who are close to him.

“When you submit completely to Allah, you get close to Him and when you get close to Him, that is the point you enjoy the sweetness of your faith. Allah loves those who are close to Him and when they pray, He listens.”

Imam Hussein however, cautioned that Allah has His own ways and time of listening to those who have complete faith in Him, and urged those with complete faith not to despair if their prayers appear to delay.

“Getting closer to Allah also comes with its own trials. We may lose things we love, and answers to our prayers for something; things we love may delay, but Allah knows best and He has His own ways of answering the prayers of those who are closer to him.”

“He may answer the prayers swiftly, or He may delay it, or provide you with a better alternative to what you have asked Him. In all three instances, He does what He knows is the best for believer.”

Imam Husein also urged those who want to be close to Allah to love people genuinely for the sake of Allah, and also strive not to stay away from Islam.
