The 2019 edition of the annual Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup was launched in Accra today, with a call on the youth of the Zongo Community to remain disciplined after Ramadan.
This year’s edition marks the 5th edition of the tournament which was instituted in 2015 in honour of the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.
This year’s edition, according to the founder and coordinator of the tournament, Tamimu Issah, is being played as part of the celebration of the centanary birthday anniversary of the National Chief Imam.
The launch of the tournament has customarily attracted high-profile dignitaries, and this year’s was not different. Minister of State at the Office of the Vice President, Hon. Boniface Abubakar Sadique was the special guest. Black Stars Coach Kwesi Appiah and his assistant, Ibrahim Tanko were also present for the second successive year.

Hon. Boniface conveyed a special message of support from the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, before going on to advice the youth to live by the values of the tournament, which is to promote discipline, unity and peace among youth of the various Zongo communities.
The Minister described the tournament as a laudable initiative and called for it to be supported because it has the potential to unearth talents and produce new football greats from the Zongo Community.

Black Stars Coach, Kwesi Appiah reiterated his unflinching support for the competition and urged the players to give off their best, because they don’t know who would be watching them.
Football administrator and President of Tema Youth Football Club, Wilfred Osei, populaly known as Palmer, urged the youth, particularly those who will participate in the competition to be led by what the National Chief Imam represents always.
He is said the competition is named after a noble man of God, and they should always be mindful of that to make the tournamenta success.
The draw for the 5th edition was also conducted.
