46th SWAG Awards: Nima-born star Kudus Mohammed voted Foreign-based Footballer of the year

Black Stars and Ajax Amsterdam Midfielder Kudus Mohammed voted by Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) as the Best Foreign-based footballer of the year 2020/21.

At the 46th SWAG Awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, the Nima-born Star brought honour to his family as his name as best of the best among Ghanaian players plying their trade outside the country.

The 21 year old won the prestigious accolade after beating stiff competition from teammates Daniel Amartey and Jonathan Mensah following a  stellar display in the year under review.

Despite battling injuries last season, the sensational youngster was always fans favourite at the Johan Cruyff Arena and became a mainstay at some point in Erik Ten Haag’s team where he won the Eredivise and the KVNB Cup in the just-finished season.

The Right to Dream Academy graduate also played a key role to help the senior national team secure qualification into the 2021 AFCON and also the playoff round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Kudus Mohammed is currently under rehabilitation process after sustaining an injury in the early stages of their final group game against South Africa last month and is hoping to recover fully very soon.

It was a moment of pride when six of his family members led by his mum walked to the podium to receive the SWAG award on his behalf.

Kudus’ name has been included in coach Milovan Rajevac’s provisional squad for the next Africa Cup of Nations and he is most likely to make it into the final 23 for the tournament which comes off early next year in Cameroon.
