The Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development, Dr Mustapha Abdul Hamid says the Zongo development initiative by the government is for the benefit of all who reside in Zongos and beyond.
Speaking to Chiefs, Imams and elders of Kyebi Zongo during his tour of the Eastern Region, the minister dispelled the notion that the Zongo development fund created by the NPP government, and the subsequent establishment of the Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development is just to ensure the welfare of NPP faithfuls.
“We are all gathered here because of the development of our Zongos and in this gathering, there are people who are PNC, CPP, NDC and there are people who are NPP. But that is not why we are here; it is not for all these. We are here for Zongo development.” Dr Mustapha told the gathering, who responded with a loud applause.
“And if Zongo develops, the NPP people in Zongo get to benefit, the NDC people in the Zongos get to benefit and the PNC people in Zongos also get to benefit.”
“This project we are going to inspect (Kyebi Zongo Community park) when it is completed and it becomes Eid ground and the Moslems are going to pray, will they decide that only NPP Moslems should go and pray Eid there?. Everybody will go and pray it and it will be be beautiful and it will be to the benefit of everybody”,
The Minister, therefore urged residents of Zongos to put their party differences aside when it comes to certain issues which will inure to the benefit of the entire Zongo Community.
The Minister also vowed he will be guided by four cardinal islamic principles; truth, just, gratitude and patience in his dealings with the Zongo Communities.
He reiterated the NPP government’s commitment to the development of the Zongos, adding that the establishment of a whole ministry by President Akufo-Addo to oversee this vision is enough testimony of the President and the government’s unwavering commitment.
The Minister, who was accompanied by staff of his ministry and National Nasaru Coordinator of NPP, Abdul Adiza Haruna Futa, later inspected the multi purpose mini stadium being built in Kyebi Zongo as pretty of the ministry’s Nationwide construction of similar facilities in selected Zongos.
