Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, has on behalf of the government, presented assorted emergency relief items to communities who have been ravaged by flood in some parts of the Northern Region.
The magnitude of the flood was severe, due to a combination of unusual heavy downpour and the spillage of the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso. The consequence of which was also dire, as lives and property were lost, with many communities displaced.
Making the presentation to the communities, the Vice President conveyed the government’s and President Akufo-Addo’s commiserations to the victims and assured them of government’s “fervent desire to prevent such avoidable loss of lives and properties in the future.”

The items presented to the communities included mattresses, mats, bags of rice, maize and sugar, beverages, tents, drinking water, mosquito nets, and undisclosed cash to some bereaved families.
The Vice President also expressed government’s desire to find a permanent solution to curb the perennial flood.
