Streamlining the Passport Process: Dr. Bawumia’s Vision for a Digital Ghana

In a recent campaign stop in the Nkwanta North constituency, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stressed the importance of simplifying the passport application process in Ghana. He proposed using data from the Ghana Card as the primary source for applications, aiming to reduce the bureaucratic challenges that many face when seeking a passport.

Dr. Bawumia, recognized for his commitment to advancing Ghana’s digitalization, remains focused on integrating technology into everyday processes, despite facing criticism regarding economic issues. He believes that these digital innovations are essential to achieving the nation’s broader development goals.

During his visit, he noted, “Many people want passports, but the current process is tedious. Starting in 2025, applicants will only need to submit their Ghana Card and pay the required fees, eliminating the need for filling out forms.” Additionally, during a visit to the Akan constituency, a paramount chief expressed disappointment over the Oti Region’s lack of support for the NPP in previous elections, despite the party’s efforts in establishing the region.
