- The Second Lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia over the weekend donated books to ten schools in the Wenchi and Techiman Municipalities.The Second Lady, who was in Wenchi together with her husband, the Vice President to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the passing of Prof. Kofi Abrefa Busia. The commemoration also coincided with the celebration of International Literacy Day.According to the Second Lady, the donation of the books was to celebrate the international literacy day and also in honour of the literary icon, Professor Busia.
- Hajia Samira urged students to cultivate the habit of reading, stressing that the habit of reading will provide a springboard for the young ones to excel.
The books donation was made under the Samira Empowerment & Humanitarian Projects (SEHP) Library in a Box Project. The SEHP is established with the purpose of empowering the underprivileged in Ghana through diverse social intervention projects to improve lives.
- One of its core projects is the Library in a Box Project, which seeks to empower many underprivileged schools with lots of books stored in safe boxes as a stop-gap measure for students in rural areas to have access to more books and cultivate the habit of reading.
