Refurbished Kumasi Central Mosque to be commisioned on Friday

The refurbished Kumasi Central Mosque will be commisioned on Friday, March 3, in a ceremony to be attended by thousands of Muslims.
It comes about three weeks to the Holy months of Ramadan.
The Vice President, Dr. Mahamud Bawumia, will lead the formal reopening of the mosque after financing the redevelopment and expansion of the prayer venue.
The newly mosque has been expanded from 3,000 capacity to 7,000 capacity, and remains the biggest in the region and one of the largest in the country.
The Mosque is fully air conditioned with over 30 underground washrooms and a 100 capacity ablution area.
It also has 11 furnished offices, a 40-capacity Imams office, and a 40-capacity chief’s office.
It also comes with two-bedroom apartments and a 500-seat conference hall.

a separate bathing place for both male and female corpses, and a state-of-the-art engine room.
The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in 2020 settled a 56-year accumulated ground lease arrears of the Kumasi Central Mosque following a request by the Muslim community in the Kumasi Metropolis.
The land on which the Kumasi Central Mosque is situated had accumulated lease arrears of GHS 120,000 dating back to 1964, and the Muslim Community in Kumasi was under intense pressure to pay up.
The intervention by the Vice President has been hailed, and he will be one of the high-profile individuals to witness the formal reopening ceremony to be held on Friday before the Juma prayer service is held.
