Abu Imoro: Former Black Star midfielder passes on

Abu Imoro, former Black Star midfielder sent to rehab, is reported dead on Tuesday June 28, 2022.
The retired player died around 3:00 pm in Accra, leaving behind fond memories of his hey days in jerseys of clubs and country.
The demise of the former Great Olympics and RTU star was announced by the Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG) Anthony Baffoe.
“Abu Imoro Tigana is no more amongst us. He died I hour ago,” the former Black Stars defender said in a tweet.
“May his soul rest peace.Surely we belong to Allah and to him shall we return. Rest well Abu.”

Imoro football carrier was hindered by drugs, something he admitted regretting.
Imoro became an icon in the Ghana Premier League during his playing days with Accra Great Olympics and Real Tamale United and was a regular member of the Black Stars in the mid and late 80s and always a delight anytime he donned the national colours.
He had lots of nicknames accorded him by Ghanaian Sports Writers of the time but he loved to be called Jean Tigana because his style of play was reminiscent of the French midfielder who was a member of the famed ‘Carre Magique.’
He was set for soccer greatness until addiction to drugs ruined his career,turning his life around for the worst.
Imoro at a point in time was sent to a rehabilitation centre to help him reform.
In interview with TV3, the former Ghana international admitted to getting addicted to cocaine and advised young footballers to desist from drugs.
