In a disconcerting turn of events, gun-wielding assailants adorned in National Democratic Party (NDC) T-shirts brazenly disrupted a campaign event organized by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Tain, located in the Bono Region, on Monday, November 20, 2024, as reported by dailyguidenetwork.com. This unprovoked act of violence transpired during a rally held by the National Zongo Campaign Team (NZCT) at the Brohani community, leaving residents in a state of shock and disbelief.
As the event unfolded, a well-coordinated group of individuals, purportedly affiliated with the NDC, stormed the venue, instigating chaos and uproar. Their entrance was marked by a cacophony of boos and shouts, as they brandished offensive weapons, creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. The leader of the NZCT for the Bono and Ahafo regions, Obrempong Dr. Arafat Sulemana Abdulai, was in the midst of delivering a speech when the mob, accompanied by a party pickup vehicle, invaded the gathering, halting proceedings and plunging the event into disarray.
Dr. Abdulai, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Zongo Development Fund, fervently emphasized the importance of civility in the electoral process, stating, “Elections are not about violence, but about policies and record of work done.” His remarks resonate as a poignant reminder that the democratic process should be predicated on constructive dialogue and the exchange of ideas, rather than intimidation and hostility.
