IGP in Kumasi over police brutality on Islamic SHS students
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare has arrived in Kumasi after Monday’s police brutality on students of the Islamic Senior High School.
The visit is to help the IGP get first hand information on the incident that resulted in the firing of warning shots to disperse the protesting second cycle students.
At least 30 students of Kumasi Islamic Senior High School in the Ashanti Region are reported to have been hospitalised following the use of tear gas by the Police to quell the unarmed protesting students.
A statement issued by the police said investigation has begun into the melee. Official account says some students and police personnel are on admission receiving medical care.

There has been widespread condemnation of the action of the Police, with some calling on the IGP to resign.
