
The Vice President of the Republic, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia turns 55 years today, and many people from all walks of life have been him well on the day of his birth.
Unsurprisingly, his wife, Hajia Samira Bawumia has led the showering of soft words and prayers for the Vice President.
“Happy Birthday darling; from the kids and I. We continue to pray for Allah’s blessings and guidance,” Hajia Samira wrote so adorably on twitter.

First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo also wished the Vice President well, writing on her twitter feed “Happy birthday H.E Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.”

The Vice President was born on October 7, 1963, in Tamale to Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia and Hajia Mariama Bawumia. His father, the Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia was a Chairman of the Council of State under the government of Jerry John Rawlings.
He had both his primary and secondary education in Tamale. After his secondary education, he proceeded continue his education abroad in the United Kingdom and Canada.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia holds a BSc. Economics (First Class Honours) degree from the University of Buckingham, UK, a Masters degree in Development Economics from Oxford University (Lincoln College) and a PhD in Economics from Simon Fraser University (Canada). He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (U.K) (ACIB) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (FCIB), Ghana.
The Vice President has published several articles in refereed journals and has also published two books on Monetary Policy and Economic Development.
Before he assumed the role of Vice President in 2016, Dr Bawumia had previously served as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana between 2006 and 2009. Between 2009 and 2010 he was a visiting scholar at the Center for the Study of African Economies, Oxford University. He also served as Resident representative for the African Development Bank in Zimbabwe in 2011-2012.
He was a visiting scholar at the University of British Columbia (Canada), and a Senior Associate Member of St. Antonys College, University of Oxford. Between 2013 and 2015 Dr. Bawumia was visiting professor of Economic Governance at Central University, Ghana. Dr. Bawumia also served as an Assistant Professor of Economics at Hankamer School of Business, Baylor University, Texas, USA (1996- 2000).
