Whenever beauty pageantry is mentioned, what readily comes to mind is an array of semi nude ladies modeling before an enthusiastic crowd to determine who is most beautiful.
This reality about beauty pageantry, especially in Ghana, has often resulted in Muslim ladies shunning beauty contests. It is not because they are not endowed with beauty, neither it is lack of confidence. No principled Muslim woman, would ever be part of any contest which exposes their nudity to the world.
There is, however, good news for young Muslim women, following the establishment of the Face of Hijab by Annur Association.
The Face of Hijab is an educative pageantry for young Muslim women and it based solely on hijab and its associated modesty. Young Muslim women, who hitherto could not take part in beauty contests, would now have the opportunity to do so without compromising on their Islamic principles.
According to organisers, the Face of Hijab will be organised strictly in accordance with Islamic principles.
“The events concept is not the runway type of modeling. During the course of the event, the contestants will engage in STRICTLY ISLAMIC ACTIVITIES which will be guided by the Qur’an, Hadith and other Islamic related books,” Face of Hijab Ambassador Sadia Ibrahim explained to The Zongo Mail.
The team is also focused on building the Muslimah empowerment which seeks to promote, educate, unite and acknowledge versatile young Muslim women at all stages of eeman (faith),” she added.
As the Face of Hijab is built strictly on Islamic tenets, organisers are also focused on projecting the modest image of the Muslim woman to inspire young ladies within the Islamic community.
“We want to create a platform for potential role models for the Muslim community, to project the good modest image of the muslimah, to foster unity among the muslimah, to exhibit the capabilities of the versatile muslimah.”
Auditioning for the event is underway, and it will be followed by a grand launch to usher in the contestants for the main contest.
The first audition took place in Kumasi last week and the Greater Accra audition will come off on Saturday April 6, in Accra.
