BREAKING NEWS: Saudi Arabia cancels 2020 Hajj; only limited locals allowed

  • The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has officially cancelled Hajj for international pilgrims this year following the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Announcing its decision to bar internatiinal pilgrims this year, Saudi Arabia said only a limited number of local pilgrims will be allowed to perform Hajj this year.

The Kingdom also announced the selected limited local pilgrims will be made up of residents from different nationalities.

As only a limited number of pilgrims are expected to perform Hajj 1441 (2020), Saudi Authorities are expected to employ strict social distancing policy for every stage of the Hajj.

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam and it attracts over 3 million Muslims across the world to Islam’s holiest sites in Mecca and Medina.

This new directive will affect plans by Ghana’s Hajj Board which had been eagerly waiting for news from Saudi Arabia.
