Mohammed Aminu Lamptey appointed Ghana Pilgrims Affairs communications director

Veteran journalist returns to role he previously held at PAOG

The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has appointed veteran journalist Alhaji Mohammed Aminu Lamptey Hussein as its new Director of Communications, marking his return to an institution he previously served.

Alhaji Lamptey held the position of Deputy Communications Director at the PAOG between 2013 and 2017, working alongside Hon Alhaji Alhassan Shaibu Suhuyini during a period that saw significant developments in the office’s public engagement strategy.

His previous tenure was notably tested during the 2015 Hajj stampede in Mina, Saudi Arabia, when his handling of information management during the crisis drew praise for maintaining clear communication channels and providing accurate updates throughout the emergency.

Diverse media background

With more than 20 years’ experience across journalism, public relations and media management, Alhaji Lamptey has built a reputation for developing communication strategies that strengthen institutional relationships with stakeholders.

During his earlier stint at the Hajj office, he introduced systems including daily pilgrim updates and flight information services, coordinating communications between Ghana and Saudi Arabia.

Beyond religious affairs, his career has spanned multiple sectors. He has served as Director of Communications for the Ghana Boxing Authority, where he also worked as a ring announcer and commentator. His broadcasting skills, including fluency in several Ghanaian languages, have made him a sought-after master of ceremonies at national events.

Alhaji Lamptey also lectures in journalism, marketing, public relations and communication studies, contributing to the training of media professionals in Ghana.

Most recently, in 2023, he worked as Public Relations Manager for Marwako Fast Food Limited, where he was involved in managing the company’s corporate communications.

The appointment is expected to enhance the PAOG’s communication capacity as it engages with prospective pilgrims and coordinates annual Hajj operations.
