
The Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia Thursday morning led a government delegation to welcome German Chancellor, Angela Merkel at the Kotoka International Airport.
Chancellor Merkel, who arrived in the country for a one-day visit was welcomed amidst rich cultural display and full military honours on the tarmac, before she was ushered into the VVIP lounge of the airport with the President who officially welcomed her.
Merkel held bilateral talks with President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House, where Dr Bawumia and members of Ghana’s Economic Management Team, held discussions with their German colleagues. The discussion centered on measures designed to help the private sector play a leading role in achieving President Akufo-Addo’s vision of moving Ghana beyond aid.
Vice President Bawumia also witnessed the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding between Ghanaian and German companies for the establishment of a number of job-creating ventures, including the setting up of a Volkswagen (VW) car assembly plant in Ghana by 2019.
