The final batch of Ghanaian pilgrims for this year’s Hajj are scheduled to leave Saudi Arabia this evening for Accra, The Zongo Mail can confirm.
Earlier schedule by the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana had scheduled Wednesday August 19 as the departure date for the final batch of Ghanaian pilgrims from Mecca.
However, the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana has decided to merge the final two flights for same-day departure, which means all the Pilgrims will now leave Saudi today.
Our sources in Mecca have confirmed departure formalities had already commenced in Mecca at the time of writing this story, as the Pilgrims were being bussed to Jedah to board the Accra-bound flight.
The final batch of pilgrims are expected in Accra in the early hours of Wednesday (in shaa Allah).
This year’s Hajj organization has variously been described as a success, with pilgrims commending organisers on flight arrangement, feeding and accommodation.
The Pilgrims Affairs Office had scheduled September 14 as the start date for the return of Ghanaian pilgrims, a situation which would have stretched the stay of pilgrims in Mecca post-Hajj by nearly one month.
After series of complaints by Pilgrims, the Pilgrims Affairs Office heeded to the call for early departure, and brought forward the departure date by a week.
